A very sad day ......having to say goodbye!

As many of you may know, I have had Belle since February 1997. She was born in October 1996. She has been such a great dog and friend. It was Belle and I by ourselves for a long time and I could always count on her to be the constant in my life! I have cherished everyday with her.
Belle has been growing old and today was not feeling well. I took her into the vet this morning. She had a temperature of 103 degrees and struggling to breath. After a few shots and sending us on our way, I thought she just had pneumonia. After about an hour at home, she passed away in her doggy bed. Although, it is not the way to find your dog, I am grateful she went quickly. She is being cremated and I will be able to pick her up next week.
As for Harley and Joey, it was clear they knew what was happening. They were watching her in her bed this morning very intently. They followed me to the door when I left with her and after bringing her home from the vet, they laid right next to her. I agree when people say that dogs know when something is about to happen. After all they were the first to recognize my pregnancy. They were very affectionate when I came back home without her and I am sure they will miss her as much as I already do.
I know many of you have lost dogs that you love as much as I love Belle. Although today is not easy, I never wanted her to get to a point where she could not live a healthy and happy life. I know she is in a better place now.
I will miss you Belle!

It's sad to lose a friend especially one to whom you've been so close for so many years. At least she went peacefully without a lot of suffering. Why can't good dogs live longer?
